MTC Robotic Arm Shoulder Joint Lead (On Going)

OVERVIEW

MTC (McMaster Technology Club) splits students into groups where they complete a specific project in one semester. I am part of the robotic desk arm buddy where the aim is to design and 3D print a robot arm using stepper motors. I am apart of the shoulder joint subteam. My first task is to calculate the total max torque the shoulder joint can withstand with our specific stepper motors. This project involves teamwork, collaborative problem solving, 3D modelling, real world prototyping.

YEAR

2026

ROLE

Robotic Arm Shoulder Joint Lead

SERVICES

3D Modelling
SolidWorks
Torque Simulations
3D Printing
Real world prototyping
Teamwork
Collaborative problem solving

About the project

  • Led end to end development of shoulder joint through proposal, selected concept, and CAD prototypes (SolidWorks), to 3D printed prototypes.

  • Coordinated across subteams to keep interfaces aligned which ensured smooth progression.

  • Provided cross team technical support (CAD, design feedback, integration planning).

  • Adapted a cycloidal drive design to meet project constraints using SolidWorks.
