2nd Place McMaster SumoBot

OVERVIEW

Design, wire, and create a robot to fight others in a sumo style environment. Use code to create searching and attacking algorithms with the help of ultrasonic and IR sensors.

YEAR

2026

ROLE

Competitor

SERVICES

Fusion 360
Arduino IDE
Motor Control
3D Printing
Electrical wiring
Sensory Integration

About the project

How?
Used Arduino Nano to wire, code, and develop different attack algorithms for a robot under strict constraints.
Used fusion 360 to design the 3D printed enclosure for the bot. Optimized the bot to be as close as possible to the desired specifications such as weight (496/500g) and size (99.8/100mm).
This maximizes the effectiveness of our pushing power, tire grip, and resistance to other bots. Ensured all the weight was close to the wheels and front for better tire grip.

Results.
Achieved second place out of 20 competitors.
Expanded my skill set in Arduino IDE, electrical wiring, how ultrasonic and IR sensors work, as well as designing CAD models with strict restrictions.
